A Browser That Doesn’t Want to Distract You

Most modern browsers compete to add more features: assistants, sidebars, notifications, and endless suggestions. The result is that the browser, which should be a tool for accessing content, has itself become a source of distraction.

Min moves in the opposite direction. It is an open source web browser, built on the Electron framework and written entirely in JavaScript. Its stated goal is to stay out of your way and give you more room for the content you actually want to read.

What Makes Min Different?

Tabs That Fade and Disappear

The most distinctive feature of Min is its tab behavior. Instead of a long row of titles that pile up until they disappear, Min displays tabs in a smaller size, and more importantly: pages you haven’t looked at in a while gradually fade out. This visual fading is not just an aesthetic effect; it is a visual reminder that there is old work you no longer need, encouraging you to close it. There is also a Focus Mode that hides all other tabs, leaving only the tab you are working on in front of you.

Tasks Instead of Tab Chaos

Instead of treating each tab as a separate entity, Min lets you group tabs into “Tasks”. Each task is a group of tabs related to a specific project or context. You can switch between tasks using keyboard shortcuts, and tasks automatically collapse when you are not using them, reducing visual clutter.

Search Everything You’ve Read

One of Min’s strongest features is full-text search across every page you have visited. The search is not limited to page titles or links; it searches inside the content of loaded pages, and it runs locally on your device. This means you can find a sentence you read months ago without remembering which site it was on.

Ad and Tracker Blocking

Min automatically blocks most ads and trackers, speeding up browsing and protecting your privacy. You can customize the blocking level from the settings: allow all ads, block only third-party ads, or block all ads and trackers. The site displays a statistic of what has been blocked (such as “55.0K” ads and trackers) so you know how much benefit you are getting.

Latest Releases

The latest stable release is v1.35.7, published on August 24, 2026. Its main changes include:

  • Upgrading the Chromium engine (for improved security and compatibility).
  • Fixing an issue that could prevent history and bookmarks from loading.

Before it, v1.35.6 was released on July 6, 2026, fixing bugs in the search bar’s autocomplete and updating Simplified Chinese translations. Previous releases mostly focused on upgrading Chromium and security fixes.

Supported Systems

Min is officially available for three systems:

System Installation Formats
Linux .deb package (Debian/Ubuntu), .rpm package (Fedora/Red Hat), AUR repository (Arch), Pi-Apps (Raspberry Pi)
Windows .exe files (installer) and .zip (portable)
macOS .dmg files for Intel and Apple Silicon processors

Additionally, the source code is available for building on other platforms, but official support is limited to the three mentioned systems.

Who Is This Browser For?

Suitable for: Those who want a lightweight and fast browser that does not consume significant resources. Those who find themselves opening dozens of tabs and cannot close them. Those who want to search the content of what they have read before. Those who care about blocking ads and trackers without complex settings.

Not suitable for: Those who need a wide extension ecosystem like Chrome or Firefox (Min supports Userscripts, but not the same breadth of extension stores). Those who want full sync of history and passwords across devices (cloud features are limited). Those looking for an enterprise browser with centralized management policies.

Summary

Min is not a browser for everyone. It is a browser for those who feel that other browsers have become heavy and distracting. Through a design focused on hiding what you do not need, searching everything you have read, and blocking ads, Min offers a calmer and more focused browsing experience. Being open source (under the Apache-2.0 license) and built on Electron, it is auditable and modifiable. If you want a browser that reduces clutter instead of adding to it, Min is worth trying.
